Body Fat Percentage Chart Based on Your Sex and Age

Find out whether or not you have a healthy body fat percentage!

Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle: Your Ideal Body Fat Percentage

A body fat percentage chart - like the one below - shows you if you have a healthy body fat percentage, a too high or too low body fat percentage.

In fact, you can find a fat percentage chart for each of the sexes - these are the same charts that all our weight loss coaching clients get, along with Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle - the complete fat-burning system that enables you to reach and stay at the ideal body fat percentage.

As you know, the consequences of a higher-than-optimal body fat percentage are low levels of fitness, overweight and even obesity - with the well-known associated dangers of being overweight.

However, what you may not know is that very low levels of body fat can be harmful for your health too. How so?

Well, if you have a too low body fat percentage you can experience dangerous disruptions in your brain functioning, hormonal activity (especially if you’re a woman), and inability to absorb vital liposoluble vitamins like A and D. Additionally, you may experience decreased libido, low energy levels, and an increased risk to injure your joints.

Before looking at the charts below, you have to determine the percentage of your body fat using either body fat scales, or one of the other 5 ways to measure your body fat percentage.

And you have to understand one more thing. Regardless of your age and sex, the ideal body fat percentage is NOT the lowest amount of body fat, but the optimal level at which you are fit and healthy.

For an accurate rating system for assessing your current level of body fat, take a look at the body fat percentage charts below:

Body Fat Percentage Chart for Women

If you’re a woman, depending on your age, a healthy body fat percentage is 19-31%:

If You Are A Woman:
Your Age Lean (Low)Slim (Healthy) Fit
(Fair)
Average (High) Obese (Very High)
19-24 < 19 % 19-22 % 22-25 % 25-29 % > 29 %
25-29 < 19 % 19-22 % 22-25 % 25-29 % > 29 %
30-34 < 20 % 20-23 % 23-26 % 26-30 % > 30 %
35-39 < 21 % 21-24 % 24-28 % 28-31 % > 31 %
40-44 < 23 % 23-26 % 26-29 % 29-33 % > 33 %
45-49 < 24 % 24-27 % 27-31 % 31-34 % > 34 %
50-54 < 27 % 27-30 % 30-33 % 33-36 % > 36 %
55-59 < 27 % 27-31 % 31-34 % 34-37 % > 37 %
60 + < 28 % 28-31 % 31-34 % 34-38 % > 38 %

Along with this kind of body fat percentage charts and worksheets, included in our coaching package is Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle.

Body Fat Percentage Chart for Men

If you’re a man, depending on your age, a healthy body fat percentage is 11-23%:

If You Are A Man:
Your Age Lean (Low)Slim (Healthy) Fit
(Fair)
Average (High) Obese (Very High)
19-24 < 11 % 11-15 % 15-19 % 19-23 % > 23 %
25-29 < 13 % 13-16 % 16-20 % 20-24 % > 24 %
30-34 < 14 % 14-18 % 18-21 % 21-25 % > 25 %
35-39 < 16 % 16-19 % 19-23 % 23-26 % > 26 %
40-44 < 17 % 17-20 % 20-24 % 24-27 % > 27 %
45-49 < 19 % 19-21 % 21-24 % 24-28 % > 28 %
50-54 < 20 % 20-23 % 23-26 % 26-29 % > 29 %
55-59 < 20 % 20-23 % 23-26 % 26-29 % > 29 %
60 + < 20 % 20-23 % 23-27 % 27-30 % > 30 %

As you can see, your sex and age count considerably when it comes to a healthy body fat percentage.

First, when you look on the body fat percentage chart above, you can easily see that the body fat percentage in women is higher. Why?

Because if you are a woman, your body needs more body fat to help you deal with a much more complex hormonal activity and during pregnancy. Obviously, your optimal levels of body fat would be very high for a man of the same age like yours.

Second, the body fat percentage chart above shows that the body fat percentage increases with age. If you wonder why, you should know that because your metabolism gradually begins to slow down when you get older and as your muscle mass tends to naturally diminish, your body fat starts increasing.

Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle: Your Ideal Body Fat Percentage

Each Body Fat Percentage Chart...

...above shows you what is the level of body fat for each level of fitness.

For instance, if you want to achieve a lean, fat-free look, your body fat percentage should be less than 19% if you are a woman and less than 11% if you are a man.

Is this possible?

Yes, with the proper diet and regular training, these goals are realistic AND achievable. For example, women with developed and well-defined muscles have as low as 9-12% body fat.
Similarly, male bodybuilders with a ripped look can have as low as 3-6% of body fat.

However, anything below these levels of body fat is considered extremely dangerous for your health.

Along with this kind of body fat percentage charts and worksheets, included in our coaching package is Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle - the complete fat burning system that enables you to reach the ideal body fat percentage and keep it in the optimum range.
